The Goat Castle Winnfield La

The Goat Castle once stood in the curve on Lafayette st accross from the armory in Winnfield La. In what is now the new part of Smith st.

It had a Large sign behind it with mountains painted on it with Goats. The sign was huge and went way up into the air. the left part was 3 stories with a stairway going up to the 3rd level.

Hugh Mercer who was the Winnfield Postmaster and his wife were the owners and operators of the Goat Castle, a restaurant and hotel.

I would really like to have a photo of this because it was really a landmark for winnfield until it fell down sometime in the 1970s

If anyone has a photo I can use on this page please send it to me.
Until I have a photo here is a crude drawing. I can not remember who many stories it was but the sign started at Lafayette street and ran allt the way to the top which was a single bedroom real high up in the air. All the way up the sign to the top were mountains with ice on them and lots of goats climbing the mountains. A stairway ran all the wau to to the top against the sign.
